PEMDAS calculator

Order of operations calculator is an online math solver that evaluates complex mathematical expressions by following the specific order of operations. This PEMDAS calculator solves math problems by following the correct sequence of operations with math rules like PEMDAS, BEDMAS, BODMAS, GEMDAS, and MDAS.
This math expression solver provides a detailed step-by-step solution for every expression that you input by using the PEMDAS rules.

What is PEMDAS?

It is an order or sequence in which mathematical expressions should be solved. It solves mathematical expressions by remembering the correct order of operations. PEMDAS goes alternatively with the names BEDMAS and BODMAS.

PEMDAS stands for:

  • P show Parentheses “()
  • E show Exponent “^
  • M represent Multiplication “* or ×
  • D represent Division “/ or ÷
  • A used for Addition “+
  • S used for Subtraction “-

You are also familiar with related acronyms like PEMDAS, which are used to solve the expression by using the rules of order of operations such as: BEDMAS, BODMAS, GEMDAS, and MDAS.

In these acronyms, “B” is used for brackets that represent the same parentheses, and “order” for exponents. But in “GEMDAS”, G is taken for grouping that shows the parentheses or brackets.

How to Simplify Equations With PEMDAS?

It is better to use our above PEMDAS calculator. But to solve math problems manually by using PEMDAS, start from left and end on right. In the solution, solve the operation 1st that comes first in the expression to move from left to right.

Firstly, solved the brackets if it present in the equations or expressions, and so on. One thing that should be kept in mind is that multiplication and division are solved side by side. This is the reason we see division before multiplication in BODMAS.

Similarly, addition and subtraction are solved side by side, there are no preferences in them. To understand how to use the PEMDAS rule to solve expressions, see the examples below with detailed steps.

Example 1:

Solve (2-1)5 - 2 + 4.

Note: Use PEMDAS Rule.

Solution:

Step 1: Solve the parentheses.

 = (2-1)

 = 1

Step 2: Now solve multiplication and division.

 = (1)5 - 2 + 4

 = 5 -2 + 4

Step 3: At the end, solve + and -.

= 5 -2 + 4

= 3 + 4

= 7

Example 2:

Solve the expression “10 / 2 × (9+2)” using order of operations.

Solution:

Step 1: Solve the parenthesis.

= 10 / 2 × (9+2)

= 10 / 2 × 11

Step 2: Now solve multiplication and division.

= 10 / 2 × 11

= 5 × 11

= 55
