Wavelength Calculator
Wavelength calculator is used to calculate the value of wavelength that is based on the value of its frequency and the default value of the speed of light.
What is the wavelength?
The wavelength is the distance between two adjacent crests/troughs of any wave. It can be measured in meters and it can be represented by the Greek letter (lambda) “λ
”.
Formula of the Wavelength
Its mathematical formula can be defined as,
λ = C/f
Where,
C
= speed of the light = 299,792,458 m/s ≈ 3 × 10⁸ m/sf
= frequency of the wave
How to calculate the wavelength?
Example 1
Find the value of the wavelength if the sound wave travels with the frequency of 70 Hz.
Solution
Step 1: Write the value of the frequency.
f = 70, λ =?
Step 2: Put the values of the frequency in the wavelength formula.
λ = C/f
= 299,792,458 /70
λ = 4282749.4 m
Example 2
Find the value of the wavelength if the sound wave travels with a frequency of 90 kHz.
Solution:
Step 1: Write the value of the frequency and convert it into “Hz” form.
f = 90 KHz = 90 × 103Hz, λ =?
Step 2: Put the values of the frequency in the wavelength formula.
λ = C/f
= 299,792,458 /90 × 103
Taken the “103” at the numerator place.
= 299,792,458 × 10-3/90
= 4282749.4 × 10-3 m
Multiply the “10-3” with the given number.
λ = 4282.7494
